Confused about the available data.

I am a new user here, and I have allowed access to my smart meters and I can get data. I have had smart meters installed for several years.

My confusion is that the web page https://glowforhomes.com/pages/property/energy-data says my earliest gas is 4th April 2026 @ 04:30 and my earliest electricity is 9th April 2026 @ 22:30, and this seems to agree with the .csv I can download, assuming the times displayed on the web page are BST.

However, If I use the Bright app on my phone I can see earliest data for gas being 9th Jan 2026 @ 23:00 and the earliest electricity being 31st Jan 2026 @ 23:00. But there appears to be no way of downloading data with the app.

If I try to refresh the data on the web page it swiftly comes back to say "Sorry - we weren't able to refresh you data resources"

Why the difference between the two ? I do not have the Glow CAD, so I assumed the was only one source of data that both the app and web page worked off - located somewhere on the Hildebrand/Glow servers; refreshed from the DCC periodically.

If I invest in the Glow CAD, will I be able to get access to more data, after all, it said in the sign up I'd be able to get 13 months worth of data. So far, that does not appear to be true.

OK, and while I seem to be asking these questions, how is it that the data from my gas meter which reports to the DCC its' usage in cubic metres somehow gets converted into kWh using a fixed calorific value of approx 393.921 which is a factor of 10 too large anyway and never varies throughout the months ?

Just curious.

  • Hi @m726345 - I can't explain your situation so can only comment on my own experience

    1) when I first registered with bright in July 2023, Glowmarkt pulled data from the meter which went back to June 2022. The SMETS2 spec states that the meter stores around 13 months of ½ hourly consumption readings, which agrees with my own observation.

    2) I don't know what the spec was for Smets1 meters, so wonder if this could be the difference - are you smets 1 or 2 ?

    3) I do have the Glow IHD/CAD, so the Glowmarkt database gets refreshed with the meter's IHD readings (via the HAN) every 10 secs over your own Wifi/Internet. However @JaneAtGlow has posted somewhere here that there is still a nightly refresh via the DCC to update these readings (presumably in case your own internet connection has dropped for some reason)

    4) I've also observed that the Glow gas readings are somewhat suspect and out by 10! However they can only be based on the calorific value which was uploaded to your meter by the supplier. This doesn't seem to ever change, and is not the value used on the bill, so should be taken with a pinch of salt 😏

  • Hello m726345,

If you can't see all your data history - could you try the refresh data? and if that doesn't work please drop an email to support@ and we'll get that cache refreshed for you.

On the gas question, some report in m3 and some in kWh. We actually store the M^3 and convert 'on the fly' to kWh - and we use the most up to date data we have for your Gas region.

Thus if the rates changes slightly the calculation will also change.
